Clothing and Fashion of the Western Tribes.
The appearance of the Vlandic tribes varies greatly from that found in the Empire, however, the divide between noble and commoner is still present. In general, the clothes worn by the rich and elite tend to be of a richer color, while those of the common folk tend to be less ornate and rich in dye. The most wealthy in Vlandian society may even wear silks from the far east.
The lower class women of the Vlandic tribes tend to wear dresses that extend to about the ankle, from which the rest of the leg is covered by a type of sock in conjunction with the shoes. Upper class women, however, tend to wear dresses that went a further down, showing that they are not the working women of the household. Regardless of class, a shawl type headdress is worn by adult women. On the off chance that a woman is not wearing one of these headdresses, her hair would likely be worn up in a simple braids and buns, however, younger noble women may wear their hair down, with elaborate braids mixed in.
The garb of the Vlandian men tends to follow the same style as the womens, with shorter, more practical, tunics for the lower class men, and longer, more ornate, tunics for the nobility. Wool breeches are most common, with the leg bindings covering the lower leg. Most men wear a belt around their waists from which they hang their everyday items such as a seax, coin pouch, etc. In colder weather, men don cloaks with hoods and caps of wool. It is the fashion in the Vlandian kingdoms for men to sport facial hair. This included both full beards and long moustaches that extend down around the mouth. In conjunction, men’s hair tends to be longer, but some Vlandian men have started to cut it shorter after contact with the Calradian Empire.
