The Aserai Shahdom
Cultural Analogues: Iranians, Balochis, Afghans, Tajiks, Turks, Pre-Islamic Arabs, Sogdians and other lost Iranian cultures.
The Aserai are the masters of the Great Desert which the Calrads gave the name “Nahasa”, and are perhaps the oldest and proudest people to have fought over the Calradic arena. They are witty and agile people, who have a touch for practicality and survival, having carved great civilizational centers out of the Nahasa. They are supreme bureaucrats, with a complex Imperial system of governance and a vibrant, active culture. The official religion of the Aserai is Aserism. The Aserai are divided in four main cultural spheres - the Karafi, the Nahasans, the Dagrozi and Morozi that are often associated with their own geographical distinctions of their land - The Nahasan desert in the north, the heartland of Asaria in the center and their original homeland of Morozia in the South.
In the long history of the Aserai people, no child has ever grown without knowing two simple truths: Asa is almighty and merciful, and the Shah is his first and greatest representative on Earth.
The current ruler of the Aserai is Kavadh II Ahudiz, who bears the title of Nahanshah of all Aserai, is an agressive, martial young woman whose recent rise to power has largely shifted the direction of the Aserai across the globe. While his father, Artabanus, had focused mainly on the resettlement of Morozia and the silent sea, and trade with the lands beyond the south, all the while preparing for a Khuzait invasion, Kavadh has built on his father’s defensive work, for offence instead of defence. Seeing the weakness of the Calrads in the North, Kavadh seeks to conquer the Sarra Valley and Shariz with it, to finally end the century-old feud between Aserai and Calrad, all the while preparing for a future conflict with the Khuzait Khanate, intent to bring Aserai Supremacy to the whole continent.
Below the Shah, the Satraps of the Empire’s many provinces are responsible for the governance of their own reserved region. These men operate on what is nearly a millennium of bureaucratic principle and tradition, and legal scribings of a thousand different sources. Despite being appointed by the Nahanshah and his officials, the Satraps of the Aserai Empire often spend their whole lives plotting against their rivals, each other and the Nahanshah, trying to guarantee the continuity of their dynasties.
The current Satraps of the Aserai Empire are:
- Jafnah Ibn Talabah Barruqid, Malik of Bariyee: He rules over a semi-independent Kingdom, which is “officially” still part of the Aserai Empire. He rules without much oversight, and has officially claimed the title of “King”.
- Suleyman Ozta, Satrap of Kheraf.
- Ardeshir Mokta, Satrap of Husn Fulq.
- Rasheed Nazeri, Satrap of Quyaz.
- Bharam Bahadori, Satrap of Habuyar.
- Varsam Shem, Satrap of Iiakys.
- Farshad Isphan, Satrap of Razih.
(based loosely on Zoroastrianism)
Asa generated the Universe after much battling from Chaos, who always has been and will be. The Creator kept him at bay for centuries, creating the Earth, life and mankind. And then after a grueling battle, Chaos sought to destroy his creation, drying rivers and spawning plague. The Creator then had a desperate effort to save man, fathering Asera from a virgin lioness and nursed by a fennec fox, and told him to teach the people of all nations to unite and be just, for Asa is good and kind but his presence goes against the natural state, so those who displease Him shall be banished while those who had a worthy life that makes Him proud to have created him shall strengthen Asa: Great Warriors shall fight the noblest and eternal war against Chaos, great women shall rule and care the people of the afterlife, great artisans shall sculpt the Earth as the wind and make powerful weapons for the eternal battle and men of great wisdom shall be reincarnated to guide men and women on the good path. It is based on the teachings of Asa spoken through Asera and the maxim of "Good thoughts, good words and good deeds."
Note on incest: Aserism has the concept of "xwedodah" which affirms that incestuous marriages are one of the holiest things to do. While marriage of very close relatives (siblings, children and parents) is allowed, it is nevertheless very rare. Most cases of incest happen among first cousins as a practical way to keep wealth within the family. It is also worth nothing that cousin marriage was a very common occurrence before Aserism.
God: Asa, The Creator, The Father
His Son and Prophet: Asera
Evil God: Orsos, The Infinitude of Chaos, The Despoiler, The Beginning and End
(Later)His other children: Diath, Vaghar, Rhudan and Ortysis.
In Aserist mythology, Vaghar was the first of Asa’s prophet-sons to walk the Earth, followed closely by Rhudan. These two sons of Asa are most often responsible for planting the roots for civilization - teaching mankind the many arts that shape it today, ranging from agriculture to sailing and painting. However, distraught at Orsos’ ever increasing influence in his creation, he sent Asera the great, first amongst his sons and the greatest prophet, who saved the Aserai and Mankind from Orsos’ evil. Five centuries after Asera had saved mankind, Diath came, although some Aserists believe that the Calrad Diath is false and that Diath has yet to step the earth. Diath was meant to be the final force that would rally mankind around him and Asera’s descendants for the final fight against Orsos, but accuse the first Makerists of having murdered Diath and having switched him with a false prophet, who would go on to become the false emperor Diath. Thus, Aserists await the return of Diath in his true, uncorrupted form - where the whole world will submit to Asa and shall face the forces of Chaos in battle and beat them. Ortysis, guardian of the underworld and Keeper of the bridges (Siran, the bridge to paradise, and Chavat, the bridge to hell) is the only one of Asa’s sons who is destined to never walk the earth.
